Will Fight For Free!!!
Las Vegas. May 2, 2015. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. The biggest fight in history. Finally, the world would get what they had been waiting for. The city of Las Vegas was crazy! Some of the most beautiful and wealthiest people were all in the building to see the two biggest fighters slug it out. The end result, the fight was boring as fuck! Mayweather, of course, danced around the ring, and Pacquiao, like every one that fights Mayweather, looked lost, frustrated and slow of foot. Mayweather won easily, Pacquiao looked old in the loss, and both men went home with hundreds of millions of dollars. Mayweather actually came away with around 230 million dollars.
Fast forwarding to last week when big news came out of Vegas. Floyd Mayweather decided to come out of retirement to fight MMA superstar Conor McGregor, which once again should draw millions and millions of dollars and of course bring everyone back to Vegas to see if Floyd will beat McGregor and get his 50th straight win and stay undefeated.
Sunday morning, more news came out of the boxing world. While everyone was talking about the Mayweather/McGregor fight, Pacquiao’s camp decided to announce their upcoming fight. July 1st, Pacquiao will defend his welterweight title against Jeff Horn in Australia. The biggest thing is that the fight will be on ESPN and not on pay-per-view, which means no money drawn in. Anyone with cable can watch this fight. This is a great thing for boxing fans, but an awful situation for Pacquiao.
This fight symbolizes the end for Manny Pacquiao. Fighting on cable television is a slap in the face to his career. A man who has 57 career wins with 38 KO, and only 6 losses should not be fighting for free. Manny, unfortunately, has not had a great last few years. Outside of the ring, he and his wife had discussed getting a divorce (which actually didn’t wind up happening), he struggled with gambling debts and the biggest problem of all, he lost all of his endorsements because of his comments that he made about gay people. He was running for a seat in the Philippines senate when he made these remarks:
“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women, they are worse than animals.”
Pacquiao is no longer the big draw that he used to be. With all of the problems Manny has dealt with and his less the impressive fights he has recently had, people aren’t interested any more on watching his fights. He has become a has been. He can’t even get a fight in Vegas anymore. One of the most feared fighters of all time is now just a shell of himself. The hype has officially died out for the champion boxer. At least now we don’t have to pay $59.99 to see the end of his career.
